The Safe Harbor agreement was established by the European Commission in 2000 to enable enterprises from countries within the European Union to exchange data with enterprises located within the U.S. - and to do so according to the European Data Protection Directive. The term agreement was commonly used in relation to Safe Harbor because this approach was agreed upon by both sides.
On Tuesday, Oct. 6th 2015 the European Court of Justice has ruled that Safe Harbor is invalid. This has an impact on many enterprises located within countries of the European Union.
